We look for the best in people and situations. There is evil and darkness in the world that we cannot ignore, but we don’t let it consume us.
I think it is super important to not be the guy that complains about everything.
And I have a natural tendency to do just that. Inside my head, I am super positive, but in everyday conversation, I am just so talented at pointing out flaws and negatives. But inside my head, I see the positives and to me recognizing the negatives to be able to eliminate them is a big step toward being more positive. Often that comes off as nitpicking and complaining.
I certainly need to do a better job voicing the positives in everyday conversations with family, friends, peers, employees, and customers.
Just like it’s easy to see the bad in life, it’s easy to see the good too. You just have to look for it. Recognize it. Talk about it. There is a ton of evil and darkness in the world we live in. That’s just fact. If you want to live in a world where you a scared, sad, mad, frustrated, and disappointed then, by all means, watch the news, listen to your politicians, and point out everything wrong in the world. You’ll be unhappy. And if that’s where you want to live, fine. Who am I to judge you. But if you want to live in a world full of goodness and light. All you have to do is look for it. Not as many people talk about it because it takes more effort. But in your everyday life when you look for and recognize the best in people your whole world changes. Happiness doesn’t come from your bank account, your job, or where you live. It is 100% dependent on how you perceive those things. If you look for the good, even in the bad, then you are simply going t be happier. And that is real. It’s a choice between being really happy or not being really happy. And it is 100% in your control inside your head.
So the next time someone does something or says something that irritates me I’m going to try to give them a pass. I don’t know what they are going through. We don’t know what’s happening in their life.
Now we can’t and should not be ignorant of the bad and evil in the world. Because that is not a healthy long-term play either. But we don’t want it to consume our lives.
SO just choose to look for, recognize, and actually talk about the good in the world. It’s not gonna kill ya.
